29. Young and supremely talented, Aryz paints huge walls with a dark, illustrated style. The painter, who has drawn sporadically since childhood, began his career on a summer day with some friends. Aryz prefers to paint simply for the sake of painting; his passions for art and fun are his motivation. In fact, he is unsure of what to call his art. People often define it as graffiti, while others consider it street art.

28. Swoon is based in New York, but she is active all over the world. Her wood block images are precisely cut and then pasted on the street. The pieces often depict characters with expressive faces and elements of their life composed to form the body.

27. Aakash Nihalani uses bright, bold lines at the forefront of all of his art as a means of visually creating 3D images on two-dimensional surfaces. The repetition of isometric squares and rectangles becomes visually pleasing to the eye, conveying complexities such as movement and space by something so simple as the placement of a line.

26. Conor Harrington's work draws a fine line between classical and contemporary art, and masterfully creates a world within those boundaries.  Harrington, a former graffiti artist, not only still enjoys painting huge outdoor murals but consistently tackles new, inventive forms of art, often in a gallery setting.

25.The dark imagery found in ChInese born DALeast's art is undeniably captivating, woven with intricate detail while focusing on the simple subjects in his pieces. Each of his pieces of art is created using paint to look like thousands of shards of metal  are coming together to form beautiful shapes, often animals or humans. Within every piece of DALeast’s art, a pop of color observed in the background brings his subject to life

24. How and Nosm, or Raoul and Davide Perre', are identical twin brothers who have become prevalent figures in today's art world with their red, black and white based murals and paintings. Their large-scale murals are riddled with intricate detail while staying true to their graffiti roots. One glance at a How and Nosm creation commands your undivided attention due to it's impressive size. However, look again and you'll see another dimension to their art that goes unnoticed unless truly appreciated and studied.

23. Born in France on February 22, 1983, JR was just another average teenager with a passion for graffiti.  However, it was not until he found a camera on the subway that his perception on street art changed. This allowed him to track the individuals who communicate messages via walls and street art. He quickly began to track people in the forbidden undergrounds and roofs of Paris, France. In 2004,JR photographed the riots that broke out in the banlieues and created his first major project by pasting up large prints of their faces around the city

The above painting of the Paul Smith store on Melrose Avenue was given to Paul Smith as a gift from John. Paul then created a limited edition women's silk scarf featuring a print of that painting, to be sold exclusively in the Melrose Avenue store.

Tierney’s paintings are rendered in a highly realistic style. He uses oil paint to enhance the luminosity of each picture and his compositions are distinguished by their vibrant colors, the interplay of light and shadow, and the juxtaposition of form and space.  According to Tierney, his primary influences are Edward Hopper and David Hockney.

Whereas in fashion the adjective “architectural” is an asset, a positive term that applies to a design with distinctively strong structure and form, the term “fashionable” in architecture is pejorative, suggesting a fleeting trend with no lasting worth. As trends typically come and go, only to return again, the fast wheel of fashion occasionally falls into alignment with the slow motion of architecture. This peculiar synchrony between “fashion time” and “architecture time” is both unsettling and liberating. - See more at: http://deste.gr/publication/the-look-diller-scofidio-renfro-with-matthew-monteith/#sthash.wsujmz7t.dpuf

The Lost Art of Jordan Betten

At the helm of bespoke leather atelier Lost Art, Jordan Betten transforms animal hide into meticulously embellished garments – or more accurately, wearable works of art — for a star-studded clientele including Lenny Kravitz and Erin Wasson.

To no one’s surprise, Betten’s eclectic aesthetic lends itself as much to architecture as it does to the canvas. For an artist not usually associated with New York’s street art scene, Jordan Betten’s murals have a strong presence around Chelsea.  His signature black and white paintings are linear and energetic — mimicking the lyrical styles of graffiti.

The same artist behind the Highline Zoo —a rooftop installation of zoo animals cleverly visible to visitors on the elevated park— Betten continues to explore alternative ways of displaying his work within the public realm.  Taking advantage of the art community just at his doorstep, he allows neighborhood visitors to encounter his work without ever having to step foot within a gallery.

In 2005, he launched Betten Art, which was created to foster and promote his use of other artistic mediums.

Betten's work has been featured in major magazines including WVogue, Elle, and Rolling Stone, and his art has been exhibited in leading museums including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, NY; the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, England; and the Museum of the City of New York.
